Who is Ideal Blood Donor ?

Characteristics of an ideal donor:

   1.     Physical discussion: a donor must be healthy person without any psychological diseases, not convicted , not intravenous drug user and not involved in unsafe sexual act.

   2.     Age: 18 – 60 years

   3.     Haemoglobin: Not less than 12.5 gm/dl (75%)

   4.     Weight: above 45 kg

   5.     Pulse: Between 60-100/min

6.     Blood pressure:  Systolic  90-180 mm/hg

                             Diastolic 60-100 mm/hg

                             Normal 120/80 mm/hg

7.     Temperature : 97-98 F

8.     Interval between donations: 120 days

9.     Free from: Hepatitis B virus, HCV, Syphilis, malaria, AIDS(screening to  be detected)

10.                        Not pregnant in last 6 weeks

11.                         a. major surgery not fit for 6 months

b. minor operation   not fit for 6 months

c.  tooth extraction for 6 weeks
